Mike McDonald was a rank and file cupe 37 member in Calgary for 12 years before moving to BC. He joined SEIU Local 244 in 1991.  In 1998 he became a member at large of the Executive Board of Local 244 before becoming president in 2000, Mike is currently:

I come from Nova Scotia's French shore. I am an LPN and have been nursing for 25 years.

I joined SEIU in 1997, and  was elected to the locals Executive Board in October of that year as three year trustee, I have remained on the board in many capacities and as the branch local's president
 
I have had training in member organizing, media/public speaking
I have taken workshops on negotiating, shop steward, facing management, to name a few.
 
At my workplace I have been unit chair for 10 years, a shop steward and served on the negotiating team.

I have been on the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour's anti-racism/human rights committee for 6 years.

I am serving my second term as a worker rep. on the E.I.'s board of referees.
