February of 2006 saw the establishment of the new SEIU Local 1 & 2 Benefit Trust. This was the culmination of some very hard work by the Leadership of both Local’s and their members who have recognized the need for such a Trust. This is a culture change for most workplaces, which must be properly approached at the negotiating table.

The Benefit Trust is a great negotiating tool with features such as, less administration that makes it a win-win for employers and members alike, and can be a partial answer to escalating benefit cost.  Members have realized we need to begin to administrate and effect the direction of our own benefits.

Our first Local 2 member’s went into the Trust on September 1, 2006, with many other workplaces to follow.

SEIU Benefits

Due to different laws, some benefits are not available to Canadian residents. The Union Plus scholarship program, Union Plus car rental discounts, and the Union Plus flower service are available to Canadian residents. Many Canadian local unions also offer other benefits to their members. Contact your international or local union office directly to find out more.
