2010 Training Seminar
170 stewards from
across Canada attended the Annual SEIU Steward Training which was held from May
2nd – May 4th, 2010 at the Fern Resort in Orillia, making
this the highest and most successful turnout to date!
As with all other
years, we held training courses in Basic Steward Training, WSIB, Health &
Safety as well as the popular Bargaining & Negotiations.
What better way to
tell you about the training seminar, but to let you tell us, so here is what
you had to say:
Basic
Steward Training:
As a first time attendee, I found the course very interesting; the "teachers" were very helpful and gave me a lot more information when they came around to listen to our groups.
WSIB:
I knew nothing abut WSIB and found all the information very helpful.
Health
& Safety:
Health Safety course learning about how you can get stress even when you trip over something, or falling down, I never knew your body goes to stress for just a few seconds, very interesting course, and Ted (T. Mansell, SEIU Local 2) was very good instructor.
Bargaining
& Negotiations:
My course was Bargaining which always seems to amaze me, being in this situation a couple of times (bargaining), this course does help, no case is always the same, so this course will always be helpful.
Overall:
As always you provided a wonderful opportunity by bringing union stewards together - I often learn so much by speaking to other stewards and hearing about their challenges and successes! THANK YOU!
We had very
informative guest speakers this year, including Mitch Ackerman, Executive Vice
President of SEIU International, John McNamee of McNamee Mediation Arbitration
and John Fryer, Public Policy Advisor and Consultant.
From everyone here
at SEIU Local 2, we would like to thank all who attended and made this event
the success that it was; we’re looking forward to seeing more of you at the
next training!
